And here we go...
Intro
Not sure where to begin. I have been Homebrewing for four years now. A while back I created a FB page to try and document my brewing. I do not do a very good job of updating that page. I have a many a musings rumbling in my head and decided to try and write some of it down.
Beginnings
As I mentioned I have been brewing for four years. A friend suggested I learn to do it and just after that I saw an intro to homebrewing course that was taught by Yusef Cherney (Ballast Point co-founder and brew master). It was a two Saturday extension course and gave me a big head start on how to make beer. The first year I probably brewed 6-8 batches. They were extract with specialty grains. I didn't have much to work with in the condo and no fermentation control. I bottled all the batches as I hadn't invest in kegs yet. Those early batches were not horrible and I even submitted some to competitions and got some respectable scores(mid to high 30's out of 50pt scores)
Since then I've moved to a house, upgraded equipment and overall been making better beer than when I started. A big goal of mine is to brew beer that I like enough to stop buying commercially produced beer. Something I have not done is enter any competitions lately. My early scores combined with the beer I try from my homebrewing friends discourages me from entering. I enjoy sharing my beer but tend to downplay the positive feedback I get from the people I share beer with.
Current
So that brings us to now. I brew about once a month or so. A new years resolution for '16 was twice a month. My wife requested I spend less time focusing on beer so I am trying to accommodate. Total batch count for '16 is four to this point. I have my annual clone attempt of Stone RuinTen scheduled for the 14th of May. RuinTen is an annual Stone release and the beer that got me into the DIPA category. It is now considered a Triple IPA but that is semantics. I want to brew a low ABV malty session beer but I can not seem to decide what that should be. (I'm open to suggestions below in the comments)
Future
Now what? Good question. I like the equipment I have and am starting to like the beer I am making. I still do not consider it commercial quality but that's just me. I'm thinking a lot of these posts will be word vomit without a lot of censor or grammar, and if no one reads then at least it's like I'm writing a diary.
So as I said above...
Here we go...
